Alania & Trey
Hi, this blog was originally started in March 2018 to document our family’s experience with becoming foster parents. However, Trey died unexpectedly in May 2018, and this blog quickly shifted to an outlet for my grief and a way for me to share what would be the most difficult experience of my life. I have left our original bios below because I can’t bring myself to delete Trey’s writing. -Alania
A little more about us:
Alania: I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, before moving to New York City for undergraduate studies and work as a professional dancer. My Texas roots got the better of me, though, so I ended back in Austin, Texas, for graduate school (Hook 'em Horns!), where I've been the last 11 years. I've never wanted to birth my own children, but always worked with at-risk children, and after meeting and marrying my husband, Trey, knew absolutely that fostering with the intent for permanent adoption was the way to complete our family. I love to travel, cook, ride my bike, and read, and I'm looking forward to sharing many of these passions with my children!
Trey: I was born overseas in Norway. My father was in the oil business and we moved around quite a bit. From Norway we moved to Alaska, Connecticut, 3 separate places in Texas, New Mexico, Scotland and England. I went to university at Texas A&M where I was a counselor for Fish Camp, a member of the Corps of Cadets and Parson's Mounted Cavalry and a crew chief for Bonfire. I broke my back my senior year and took a year off of school while I lived with my parents in Venezuela. Once I came back and got my degree I moved immediately to Austin in 2003. Once I met my wife I knew that fostering would be a wonderful way to complete our family. I love traveling, cooking, reading sci-fi novels, skiing and working with children. I am looking forward to growing our family and the adventures it will bring.
